On Memorial Day 2007 a service was held at the
Barnwell Veterans Memorial Park to honour
the fallen from counties surrounding Barnwell.
The families were invited to attend as the bricks
were dedicated commemorating the momories
of their loved ones.

US ARMY CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER 2:  JASON G. DEFRENN:  Age 34 years, of Barnwell, SC. He was assigned to 3rd FORWARD SUPPORT BATTLION, 3rd INFANTRY DIVISION, FORT HOOD, TEXAS; he died February 2, 2007 in Taji, Iraq of wounds sustained when his Apache helicopter was forced to land during combat operations.

 

US ARMY SGT.:  GEORGE E. BUGGS:  Age 31 of Barnwell, SC. He was assigned to 3rd FORWARD SUPPORT BATTLION INFANTRY DIVISION, FORT STEWART, GEORGIA. He was killed March 23, 2003 after his convoy was ambushed in Iraq.

 

US MARINE CORPORAL MATTHEW V. DILLON:  Age 25 of Aiken, SC. He was assigned to MARINE SUPPORT SQUADRON 373, MARINE WING SUPPORT37, 3rd MARINE AIRCRAFT WING, 1ST MARINE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE,MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, CA. He died December 11, 2006 while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq.

 

US ARMY SPECIALIST ORENTHIAL J. SMITH:  Age 21 of Allendale, SC; assigned to COMPANY A, 123 SUPPORT BATTLION, DEXHIEM, GERMANY. He was killed by enemy fire on June 22nd, 2003 in Bahgdad, Iraq. Smith was in a convoy that was ambushed.

 

US ARMY SPECIALIST JASON L. MOSKI: Age 24 years from Blackville, SC; Assigned to the 4th BATTLION, 1st FIELD ARTILLERY, FORT RILEY, KANSAS; he was killed February 25, 2005 when an IED ( improvised explosive devise) exploded while he was on dismounted patrol I Taji, Iraq.

 

US MARINE PFC RODRICKA YOUMANS: Age 22 years of Allendale, SC; assigned to 2nd LIGHT ARMOURED RECONNAISSANCE BATTLION, 2nd MARINE DIVISION, II MARINE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, CAMP LAJEUNE, NC. He was killed July 6th 2004 by enemy action in Anbar Province, Iraq.

 

US ARMY PRIVATE 2 ALGERNON ADAMS: Age 36, of Aiken, SC; he was assigned to the 122nd ENGINEER BATTLION, ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, EDGEFIELD, SC; he died October 28th 2003 at Forward Operating Base St. Mere, Iraq.
